Junior Team Match Reports

17th October 2009

Final Score - Grasshoppers 19 : Barr Beacon 45

The girls played a very hard game against very experienced 16 year olds. They held their own throughout the game and did themselves credit when defending down the court. The score does not reflect the efforts put in by all. Lauren was nominated player of the match by the opposition and the umpires.

10th October 2009

Final Score - Grasshoppers 33 : Dudley Leisure 7

Always going to be a tough game against a much bigger and older U16 Dudley Leisure team, but juniors gave it their all.

Caroline was again outstanding in defense and worked well with birthday girl Surai.Emily and Megan shot well when they got the opportunity in the circle, having to contend with some very physical marking from Dudley's GD and GK. Dana and Rachel contributed with some good intercepts at WD, whilst Lauren and Emily F both took their turn at centre during a very fast and at times frantic game.Kim had to leave the court after a quarter with an injured ankle, ensuring no further damage, as she was required to play again after for the thirds.

In the end Dudley's greater physical presence and obvious years of experience won through, but full credit to the juniors for persisting and giving the game their all.

26th September 2009

Final Score - Grasshoppers 15 : Wanderers 27

After having to concede the first game of the season due to last minute illness/injuries, Grasshoppers Juniors were raring to go for their first competitive match. Having been entered in the Under 16s League, the 7 available players were all under 14 & made an excellent start against an experienced Wanderers team who were clearly much older. The first quarter ended 4 – 6, with some excellent movement & shooting from Caroline in her ‘new’ position of GA.

The next 10 minutes saw us first going 3 – 1 up, then 6 – 2 up, before fading a little but winning the quarter 6 – 5, with excellent movement from Emily Foley at C, and hard work from Sarai in her debut for the Club at GD, pulling out interceptions & getting tips on many balls into the opposition’s circle. Dana, at WA, covered loads of ground in the centre court in particular.

In the third quarter GA & GS swapped, with Megan coming out to GA. Unfortunately this backfired on us a little, as some good defending by Wanderers made it hard work for her to get into the circle. Rachel, at WD, made herself available for backup when the ball couldn’t go forwards, but with less shooting opportunities only 3 goals were scored in that quarter, going down 3 – 9.

The shooters swapped back for the final quarter, but tiredness set in & we lost the quarter 2 – 7, despite strong defending from Caitlin at GK.

All in all, a good performance for the first one – some good points to take into the next match on 10th October.

Player of the match: Caroline
